R = the profit or loss relative to the initial risk (the distance between entry and stop). A +2 R trade made twice what it risked: it is the unit that makes your trades comparable, whatever their size.

How to fill it in

  1. 1One row per trade, right after it closes.
  2. 2The stop is the one set before entry: it gives the R.
  3. 3Setup and emotion in one word, always the same words, so they can be counted.
  4. 4On Sunday, read the Statistics and By setup tabs: which setup pays, which one costs.

The day copying becomes a chore

Edgyx imports your trades directly from MetaTrader 4 and 5, cTrader, Tradovate and TradeLocker, or by CSV file, and computes the same statistics. Ora adds what a spreadsheet can't see: the sequences that cost money, flagged during the session.

Frequently asked questions

What columns should a trading journal have?

At minimum: date and time, instrument, side, size, entry price, stop, exit price, result. Add the setup and the emotion in one word: those two columns reveal the most, because they let you compare your trades with each other.

Does the template work with Google Sheets?

Yes. Download the Excel file, then in Google Sheets: File › Import › Upload this file. Formulas and tabs are kept. It also opens directly in LibreOffice and Numbers.

How do I calculate R for a trade without a stop?

Without a stop there is no defined initial risk, so no R: the column stays empty and the trade drops out of the R statistics. Record it anyway: a trade without a stop is information in itself, often the most expensive kind.

How many trades before the statistics mean something?

Around thirty trades per setup gives a first trend; below that, a lucky or unlucky streak weighs too much. That is why the template shows the trade count next to every statistic.
